How to use

  1. Type your entries, one per line, or separate them with commas: names, prizes, chores or things to eat.
  2. Press Spin. The wheel slows down and stops, and the slice under the pointer wins.
  3. To pick several winners with no repeats, tick Remove the winner. Press Put all entries back to start again.
  4. Press Share result to send the same wheel to your class, team or family group chat.

The wheel starts with six takeaway ideas. Replace them with your own.

How the pick works

Many spinners simulate the physics of a wheel and see where it happens to stop, so the result depends on the animation. This one works the other way round:

  1. When you press Spin, a cryptographically secure random number picks one of the N entries.
  2. The wheel then works out how far to turn so the pointer lands inside that slice.

So every slice has a chance of exactly 1 in N. It also avoids “modulo bias”: when the range of random numbers doesn’t divide evenly by N, the leftover values are thrown away and drawn again, so the first slices don’t get a tiny head start.

Examples

  • Friday night takeaway: each of the six default options has a 1 in 6 chance, about 16.7%.
  • Weighted odds: add “Curry” a second time to make 7 slices. Curry now has a 2 in 7 chance, about 28.6%, and every other option 1 in 7.
  • A prize draw with 3 prizes: enter 10 names, tick “Remove the winner” and spin three times. The first winner comes from 10 names, the second from 9 and the third from 8, and the list shows them in order.
  • Secret Santa order: enter everyone in the office and spin with “Remove the winner” ticked to decide who draws first, second and so on.

Ideas

  • Pick who answers next in class, or the order of presentations.
  • Draw the winners of a tombola, office sweepstake or social media giveaway.
  • Decide whose turn it is to make the tea, wash up or drive on the next night out.
  • Choose a film, a board game or a pub quiz category.

FAQ

Is the wheel really random?

Yes. The moment you press Spin, the winner is chosen with your browser's crypto.getRandomValues, a cryptographically secure random number generator, and every slice has exactly the same chance. The spinning animation only shows the result; when you press the button and how long the wheel turns make no difference.

Can I use it to draw a raffle?

You can use it to pick the winners, and the "Remove the winner" option stops one name winning twice. The wheel only does the picking. If people paid to enter, the raffle counts as a lottery under the Gambling Act 2005. A raffle held at a single event, such as a school fair, usually needs no licence, but check the Gambling Commission's guidance or your local council first.

How do I pick a teacher's next student without repeats?

Paste the class list, one name per line, and tick "Remove the winner". Each name comes off the wheel once picked, and the order is listed underneath, so you can work through the whole class. Press "Put all entries back" for the next lesson.

Can I give one option a better chance?

Enter it more than once. If "Curry" is on two lines it gets two slices and twice the chance. Delete the extra line if you added it by mistake.

How many entries can I add, and do you keep them?

Up to 50 entries of 30 characters each. The picking happens in your browser and nothing is sent to our servers. Your entries only go into the web address when you press "Share result", so the person you send it to sees the same wheel.
