Pick a date of birth

Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you enter is uploaded.

How to use

  1. Pick a date of birth.
  2. “Age on” is today unless you change it. Set it to any date to see the age on that day, for example an application deadline or the last day of the school year.
  3. You get:
    • Age: whole years, plus the exact age in years, months and days.
    • Next birthday: the days to go, the date and the age it brings. On the day itself it says “Today!”.
    • Days lived, and the same span in weeks and in months.
    • The day of the week you were born.

Dates are shown the UK way, day first: 13/10/2026 is 13 October 2026.

How it is calculated

The calculator steps forward from the date of birth one month at a time until the next step would go past the “Age on” date. Every 12 months make a year, and whatever is left is the days. When a month is too short for the birth date, the last day of that month is used, so 31 January plus one month is 28 February (or 29 in a leap year).

Days lived = “Age on” date − date of birth. Leap days are counted, because the sum uses real calendar dates.

Example

Someone born on Sunday 20 May 1990, on 13 October 2026:

Result
Age 36 years, 4 months, 23 days
Days lived 13,295 days
In weeks 1,899 weeks and 2 days
In months 436 months
Next birthday In 219 days (Thursday 20/05/2027, turning 37)

Someone born on 29 February 2004 is 22 years, 7 months and 14 days old on 13/10/2026. Their next birthday here is 28/02/2027, because 2027 is not a leap year.

When an exact age matters in the UK

  • School year: children born in August are the youngest in their year and September babies the oldest. Check the age on 31 August, or on 1 September for the start of term.
  • Learning to drive: you can apply for a provisional licence at 15 years 9 months, so the date is worth knowing in advance.
  • State Pension and free bus pass: both depend on your date of birth. Get your exact date from GOV.UK, then use the date calculator to count the days.
  • Babies: health visitors and parents track age in weeks and months in the first two years. For the countdown before birth, see the due date calculator.

FAQ

How is the age worked out?

It counts whole years from the date of birth, then whole months, then the days left over. You become a year older on your birthday itself, so someone born on 20/05/1990 is 35 on 19/05/2026 and 36 on 20/05/2026.

Which school year is my child in?

In England and Wales the school year runs from 1 September to 31 August, so children born between 1 September and 31 August are in the same year group. Most children start reception in the September after their fourth birthday. Set "Age on" to 31/08 of the year you are checking to see how old your child will be at the end of that school year. Scotland and Northern Ireland use different cut-off dates.

When is a leap-day birthday in a non-leap year?

This calculator uses 28 February, the last day of the month. Many people born on 29 February celebrate on 1 March instead, and an organisation may apply its own rule, so check with them if the exact date matters for a form or a deadline.

Can I check my age on a future date, such as my State Pension age?

Yes. Change "Age on" to any date. The State Pension age is currently 66 and is rising to 67 for people born on or after 6 April 1960. Your exact date depends on your date of birth, so use the official checker on GOV.UK and then count down to it here.

How old do you have to be to drive, vote or open a Lifetime ISA?

You can apply for a provisional driving licence at 15 years and 9 months and drive a car on the road from 17. You can open a Lifetime ISA from 18 until the day before you turn 40. Voting ages depend on the election, so check before you register. Enter the relevant date in "Age on" to see whether a birthday falls before a deadline.
